The opening mixes a smoky material with two bright ones. Incense in perfume is the dry, resinous smoke of burning frankincense and similar gums, cool and slightly lemony before it turns warm. Pink pepper is not a true pepper but the dried berry of a different tree; it is rosy, aromatic and mildly peppery, lighter than black pepper. Bergamot supplies a bitter citrus freshness around them.
Four materials share the heart. Cedar is dry and pencil-shaving woody; ylang-ylang is a creamy yellow flower with a banana-and-custard sweetness; Bulgarian rose is a classic source of rose oil, deep and a little spiced; jasmine is rich and heady. The result is a floral heart set on a woody shelf, with the cedar slipping in among flowers where one would not usually look for it.
The base holds only two notes, both sweet. Vanilla is warm and creamy; benzoin is a balsamic resin that smells of vanilla, cinnamon and a hint of toffee, so the two reinforce each other. That is the oriental half of the picture. Incense at the top also belongs to the resin family, which ties the opening to the close.
Judged by its notes alone, Double Dose is a soft and flowery floral scent.

Benzoin is a balsamic resin tapped from trees of the styrax family. It smells sweet, warm and vanilla-like, with a trace of cinnamon. In Double Dose it shares the base with vanilla, so the two sweet materials stand side by side.
