How to read the notes

Top, heart and base

Many brands publish a perfume as a pyramid of three stages. The top notes are what you meet first. The heart notes make up the body of the scent. The base notes are the ones that stay the longest on the skin. Not every Bujairami listing has all three stages: some give one list of notes without an order. This guide shows each list the way the brand publishes it and adds nothing to it.

What a note is

A note such as vanilla or amber may be a single material, or an accord: a blend that gives the impression of that material. The listing does not say which, so a note name is a pointer rather than a recipe. Every note in this guide that appears in several scents has a page of its own with a plain explanation and the scents that list it, split by top, heart and base.

Scent families

This guide files each scent under one or more of seven families: aquatic, citrus, floral, fresh, gourmand, oriental and woody. The sorting is this guide's own, made from the note list, so a scent with vanilla, tonka bean and sugar ends up under gourmand. A family is a first hint of the character, not a promise: two scents in the same family can still smell quite different. Start from the overview of the families and follow the one you like.

Comparing two Bujairami scents

Set two note lists side by side. The notes they share tell you what the scents have in common, and the notes only one of them has tell you where they part. Each scent page names its closest Bujairami scents by shared notes, and the comparison pages do this for pairs that people often mix up.

What a list of notes cannot tell you

A list says what is in a scent, not how it feels on your skin or how strong it is. For that, nothing replaces smelling it. The shop's Sample Service fills 10 ml samples of selected scents, which is a small step before a full bottle; see samples and sizes, or which Bujairami to try first.
