What does Bujairami Tip-Top smell like?
Spice leads the list of Bujairami Tip-Top. Cinnamon is sweet and warm, nutmeg dry and woody with a peppery freshness, cardamom cool and green. Three spices in one top tier is a lot, and grapefruit is there to cut them: it is the bitter, sparkling citrus, sharper than orange or mandarin. Spice against bitter peel makes for a hot-and-cold opening on paper.
Lavender has the heart to itself. The herb is clean, floral and a little camphorous, and here it works as a bridge between the spiced top and the dark base. A one-note heart is the brand's choice of listing; it shows where the weight is not.
Half the notes are in the base. Licorice is the distinctive one, an anise-like, sweet-bitter root note with something of dark candy about it. Sandalwood is creamy, amber warm and resinous, patchouli earthy. Haitian vetiver is the root of a tropical grass grown in Haiti, valued for a cleaner, drier, less smoky smell than vetiver from other origins. Licorice over woods and resin is why this guide files Tip-Top under oriental and woody.

Tip-Top compared with three similar Bujairami scents
Cinnamon, cardamom, lavender and amber are in both Bujairami Agha and Bujairami Tip-Top, so the spiced-lavender idea is common ground. Agha adds clove and apple on top, geranium in the heart and Bourbon vanilla with cedar below, a sweeter finish. Tip-Top has no vanilla. Its base goes to licorice, patchouli and Haitian vetiver instead.
Bujairami Perfect Life shares five notes with Bujairami Tip-Top: grapefruit, lavender, sandalwood, amber and patchouli. What it does not have is the spice. Its top is grapefruit with apple and blackcurrant, and geranium joins the lavender, which makes it the fruitier, cleaner list. Tip-Top's cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom and licorice have no counterpart there.
The base of Bujairami Tigris, amber and patchouli, and its vetiver heart all recur in Bujairami Tip-Top, and its top pairs citrus fruits with unnamed spices much as Tip-Top pairs grapefruit with three named ones. Tigris is the shorter list at six notes and has musk; lavender, licorice and sandalwood are only in Tip-Top.
