What does Bujairami Shu Helou smell like?
Seven top notes is a crowd, but they fall into three groups. Grapefruit, lemon and bergamot are the citrus: bitter and sparkling, sharp and clean, bitter-fresh and slightly floral. Mint and coriander are the green, aromatic pair, one cooling, the other lemony and lightly peppery. Pink pepper gives a dry, rosy prickle. Aldehydes, the only synthetic group in the top, add the fizzy, soapy brightness of fresh laundry. Everything in the top of Bujairami Shu Helou is cold or sharp.
The heart warms up by a few degrees. Ginger is peppery and lemony and carries on from the citrus. Nutmeg is a dry, slightly sweet spice with a woody side. Jasmine is the single flower, sweet and full. Melon is the unexpected one: a watery, green-sweet fruit note that gives a wet, almost marine transparency.
Seven notes again in the base, and here the list goes dark. Incense is cool resin smoke. Cedar is dry, sandalwood creamy, patchouli earthy. Amber is the warm, sweetish resin accord; labdanum is the leathery resin from which amber accords are traditionally built, so the list names both the effect and one of its sources. Amberwood is a modern term for dry, ambery wood molecules. Citrus, spice, smoke and wood in sequence: the three families this guide assigns, oriental, woody and citrus, all have clear grounds in the list.

Shu Helou and its closest neighbours
Six notes line up between Bujairami Shu Helou and Bujairami Vibration: grapefruit and bergamot, ginger, jasmine, cedar and amber, and patchouli is on both lists too. Vibration adds magnolia, orris root and musk, which are soft, floral-powdery choices. Shu Helou adds mint, aldehydes, coriander, melon, incense and labdanum, a colder top and a smokier base.
Bujairami Boss Life shares its citrus with Bujairami Shu Helou, lemon and bergamot, along with cedar, amber and patchouli, and its “spices” have counterparts here in nutmeg and pink pepper. The heart and base then diverge. Boss Life lists tobacco, leather and oud. Shu Helou lists none of those and has jasmine, melon, incense and sandalwood.
Bujairami Mafia Boss is a nine-note extrait: spices, bergamot and lemon, then tobacco, amber and cedar, then leather, patchouli and agarwood. Bujairami Shu Helou covers the citrus, cedar, amber and patchouli and names its spices as nutmeg, coriander and pink pepper. It has no tobacco, leather or agarwood; mint, aldehydes, ginger and incense stand in their place.
