Bergamot and orange open the scent in a bright, bitter-sweet citrus. Orange is rounder and sweeter than the sharp rind of bergamot, and violet leaves add a green, faintly metallic edge. Dewberry adds a tart, berry-like fruitiness that keeps the top from being plain citrus.
